France: Senate rejects by majority the anti-bullfighting proposal and strengthens the status of bullfighting in France

The French Senate has rejected this afternoon by a large majority the attack directed against bullfights by the RDPI group, just as the Law Commission had previously done, which sought to prohibit the entrance to bullrings of minors under 16 years of age.

After having listened to the parties and accepted the arguments presented by the Union of French Bullfighting Villages, the Senate considered that, under the pretext of the protection of minors, it was in fact a matter of:

- Sanctioning the organizers, the bullfighters and the parents, rather than protecting the minors from unproven traumas.

- Violate the right of families and parental authority.

- Violate the right to differentiation of public communities, which gives mayors the power to regulate within the scope of their specificities.

Considering that parents have the exclusive right to educate their children by transmitting bullfighting culture to them and that mayors have the exclusive power to regulate bullfighting matters, the Senate has taken an important step towards the definitive protection of bullfighting in France.
