Mundotoro.com writes: "After five months of tense debates, democracy has triumphed". The Union of French Bullfighting Villages and the Observatory congratulate themselves on the 'victory by abandonment' against the prohibitionist threat
The Union of French Bullfighting Villages and the National Observatory of Bullfighting Culture have issued a statement welcoming the decision of La France Insoumise (LFI) to withdraw the proposed law calling for a ban on bullfighting in France, hours before it was due to be debated in the French Parliament.
In the letter they thank the President of the Republic for 'the support clearly expressed in favour of the cultural freedom of the bullfighting regions, as well as all the deputies whose intention to vote was unanimous', adding that 'Deputy Caron who has been abandoned by his own group before the imminent vote on the amendments rejecting the whole text'.

Communiqué of the Union des Villes Taurines Françaises and Observatoire National des Cultures Taurines:
'Bullfighting wins by abandonment'.
By withdrawing its plan to ban bullfighting in anticipation of an unfavourable vote, "France Insoumise" has ratified the 1951 law and confirms the cultural exception established at the time in favour of bullfighting in its traditional regions.
The Union of the Bullfighting Villages of France thanks the President of the Republic and the Government for the support clearly expressed in favour of the cultural freedom of the bullfighting regions, as well as all the deputies whose voting intention was unanimous, as it was in the Commission of Laws, dissuading "France Insoumise" from going to the end of the proposal of Deputy Caron. Deputy Caron who has been abandoned by his own group in view of the imminent vote on the amendments rejecting the whole text.
This proposal emanated from an anti-humanist, anti-speciesist ideology. It is to be hoped that the prospect of its crushing failure on the bullfighting ban will probably dissuade "France Insoumise" from further endangering the many other activities targeted by MP Caron and other animalist parties
animalist parties, have already been threatened.
After five months of tense debates, democracy has triumphed. In France, bullfighting is and will remain a legitimate cultural expression in traditional areas.

Bullfighting has managed to come out of the worst crisis in its history
Bullfighting has managed to come out of the worst crisis in its history by reaching the best figures for the celebration of bullfights, at least in the last decade. In Spain it has managed to pass the mythical figure of 1000 celebrations (bullfights, novilladas, rejones). Specifically, according to mundotoro.com statistics, 1,001 major celebrations have been held in Spain. A historic milestone that pulverises the records of the last year of "normality" (2019) in festejos mayores: from the 1001 held this year to the 793 of 2019.
The season that is coming to an end, and which still has some residual festejo left, improves the numbers of the decade. In 2012, the first year without bullfighting in Catalonia, 958 celebrations were held. This figure of surplus does not reach the number of towns and villages that held bullfights. 422 towns and villages held bullfights in 2022, compared to 434 in 2012. Nevertheless, the recovery of towns and cities with bullfights is possible: this year bullfights have been announced in 422 towns and cities, compared to the 377 towns and cities that gave bullfights in 2019.
